Assessment of a recent client’s network revealed that a critical server was not communicating with its Uninterruptible Power Supply and the server would not conduct an orderly shutdown when the UPS was near exhaustion. Therefore the server was experiencing a hard shutdown when the UPS battery died with significant risk of data loss.
Additionally, a critical workstation was not being backed up for timely restoration in the event of hardware failure.
Both of these discrepancies were corrected at a cost approximately ten times less than recovery without corrective measures in place.
